Material behavior

High affinity with cement changes the design problem

PVA fibers are hydrophilic and can develop strong interaction with a cementitious matrix. In engineered high-ductility systems, fiber dimensions, strength, modulus, surface treatment, matrix fracture properties and dispersion are designed together.

Matrix design is as important as fiber selection

PVA is not a drop-in substitute for PP, steel or AR glass. It is selected as part of a deliberately proportioned cementitious composite.

PVA property concepts

Grade selection connects fiber properties to the matrix

Fineness / diameterDescribes fiber scale and influences fiber count, dispersion and interface area.
LengthInfluences embedment and mixing; the appropriate length depends on matrix, aggregate scale and process.
Tensile strengthFiber capacity reported for a selected grade; exact values require its product data sheet.
Elastic modulusRelates stress to elastic strain and helps characterize how the fiber participates in crack bridging.
Cementitious affinityPVA chemistry can produce strong interaction with cementitious matrices, so interface and matrix design require deliberate validation.
