Microsynthetic Monofilament PP Fiber

A regular-supply polypropylene monofilament pathway primarily considered for plastic-shrinkage and settlement-crack control in fresh and early-age concrete.

Regular Supply

What it is

Fine polypropylene monofilaments

Microsynthetic PP fibers are fine individual polymer filaments dispersed throughout concrete or mortar. Their primary role is early-age crack-control context, not the same post-crack structural role as macro synthetic or steel fibers.

  • Polypropylene material
  • Monofilament micro geometry
  • High fiber count at low mass
  • Non-corroding polymer

Fresh-concrete behavior

Distributed restraint while concrete is vulnerable

Before concrete develops useful tensile capacity, evaporation, settlement and restraint can produce early cracks. Fine fibers form a distributed network through paste and mortar.

Plastic shrinkage

Early surface cracking

Fiber distribution can help limit crack formation while moisture loss and restraint act on fresh concrete.

Settlement

Restraint around inclusions

Fibers can support cohesion where settlement is interrupted by reinforcement, aggregate or geometry.

Fire/spalling context

Only when specified

Some PP micro systems are used in fire-exposure strategies; the fiber and design evidence must match the project.

Selection and verification

Confirm filament, dosage and application

UCGP has commercial evidence for microsynthetic monofilament PP supply. Exact fiber length, diameter, packaging and dosage are confirmed per quotation.

ApplicationSlab, precast, shotcrete, mortar, overlay or another context.
FiberMonofilament PP form and required dimensions.
ObjectivePlastic shrinkage, settlement, cohesion or documented fire strategy.
MixingAddition point, batch size and mixing time.
FinishTrowel, formed, sprayed or exposed surface requirement.
StandardsASTM C1116 and ASTM C1579 where project-relevant; EN 14889-2 where supplied documentation supports it.

Micro versus macro

Monofilament PP is selected for a different role

Fine geometry

Distributed early-age restraint

Monofilaments disperse through fresh concrete to support specified plastic-shrinkage and settlement-crack-control objectives.

ASTM C1579 context

Plastic-shrinkage evaluation

Where specified, restrained-panel testing compares cracking under controlled drying conditions; it is not a universal dosage prescription.

Not macro performance

Different acceptance basis

Do not infer structural residual performance from a microsynthetic product unless the selected system and project evidence expressly support it.
